Q: How long have you been part of our Core fam?
B: Six years
Q: What fills up your days?
B: I am a Family Medicine Physician Assistant. I practice in Quinlan, Texas and have been there for 11 years. It's a busy practice with patient ranging from infancy to 100! My husband is a Captain with the DPS in their Garland Regional office. I have a 14 year old daughter and 11 year old son, Bellamy and Pruitt. Our schedule is hectic from sun up to sun down. My children attend Greenville Christian School so we have a commute (in opposite directions) daily. My children are both active in extracurricular activities which complicates thing at times.
Q: What about CrossFit appeals to you?
B: CrossFit is my stress relief. Being physically active is so important to my mental health. I am naturally a competitive person. Before I found CrossFit I was participating in mud runs and obstacle runs while running. All of these were great, but I had no personal attachment because it was with large groups of people I didn't know and would never see routinely. CrossFit has given me an extended family that I can see routinely. They encourage me and I hope that I am an encouragement to them. I love that CrossFit gives me the opportunity to compete with others and myself in such a supportive manner. I don't have to be perfect, I just have to strive to be better with each WOD or competition.
Q: What do you love the most about being a part of The Core?
B: I LOVE that at the Core I don't have to have all the answers. It's ok for me to just do my best and then learn from my mistakes or failures without embarrassment or shame. I know that I can always come back with acceptance and the opportunity to learn from each WOD and continue to improve without judgement. In my profession I don't get that luxury. If I don't know the answers or make a mistake it can be detrimental to my patient.
Q: What is your favorite CrossFit movement/element?
B: DEADLIFT
Q: What is your least favorite CrossFit movement/element?
B: Sumo DLHP
What is your CrossFit/health goal this year?
B: My goal is to focus more on providing myself personal enrichment and growth. I focus so much of my attention on helping others and supporting my family that I lost myself somewhere in the process. I have allowed the pandemic and increased work responsibilities to steal too much time and faith. I have started focusing on rest so that I can get enough sleep but wake up early enough to start my day with devotion and prayer. I am also working on planning my days and meals again to allow me the right nutrition and ability to WOD at the CORE more routinely. No excuses. When I WOD that time is mine. What I do with it is up to me. I LOVE that challenge!
Q: Anything extra you want to share?
B: CrossFit, but specifically the CORE, has given me a life experience full of strength, support and friendships that I would have never received otherwise. I am eternally grateful for this!
